I painted my rears drums with a "rust converter" paint called Chassis Saver
that I purchased for frame painting as I do work underneath. I bought a
gallon of this stuff (about $90/gal.) and it works incredibly well. Not only
does it work better on a rusty surface but once it dries, there are very
few solvents that will remove it. The only issue I've had is it dries in the
can and forms a hard skin which causes some loss of paint. I also bought
the reducer in case I wanted to spray it. Aside from the frame, I've painted
almost 1,000 lbs. of barbell plates, 2 large cast iron garden urns, and
over 200 feet of steam heating return pipe. There is a cool video on the
website featuring Ted Nugent (Hunter/Rocker) and a restoration they did on an
old Bronco. I'm pretty sure I'll do my calipers with it in the Spring because
I still have over a 1/2 gal. left. Just my $.02
