Rob - thanks for all the help. Thanks also to Mike and Fred for
their input. Will get it out this weekend and

check out the manifold ... I have the carb off now - think I see a
hairline crack in the secondaries but not for sure ...

Thanks averyone! BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica,

Chip,
On a final note I would HIGHLY recommend that when you do decide to
block
the crossovers that you do it when you have plenty of time to figure
out
what you want to address the problem if you find it cracked.
You have a number of options if you find your manifold cracked:
1) Weld repair the cracks
Comment: will it really seal properly and how long will it last?
2) Find a replacement manifold
Comment: If you get one off another GMC it probably is also cracked!
Try to find one off a Toronado.
3) Install an aluminum manifold from Edelbrock
Comment: their manifold is higher and you will have to build a dog
house on the engine cover for the carb / air cleaner to fit into.
4) Install an aluminum manifold from Gary Rockwell
Comment: they cost $600!
I am of the opinion that at this point in time a great majority of
GMC's
that don't have the crossover blocked have cracked intake manifolds
but the
owners don't know it!

Thanks Rob. Sounds like the Dick Paterson gaskets / block off's
should take care of me.
Appreciate the info / help !
