G'day,

Ken Frey put Equal balancing beads in the Khumo tires / Alcoa wheels I have
on Double Trouble and I am very happy with the product EXCEPT for two
things:

1) The beads can get into the stem and cause the Schrader valve to stick
open.

2) You have to put a bit of pressure into the valve stem to blow the beads
out to check the tire pressure.

I found out that each packet of Equal comes with a Schrader valve that has a
little filter on it. I screwed the Schrader valve out of one wheel on Double
Trouble to see if it had the filter and it did not.

I called Ken to find out why he didn't install them and he advised that the
filter would not fit into the valve stems on the Alcoa's.

I contacted Equal and ask them for eight filtered valve stems and ask them
if they were aware of the problem, their response was:

"We will certainly take care of your request for some Filtered Valve Cores.
I will have them sent to you at no charge today. We appreciate your
business. I would however like to talk to you about your valve hardware -
the stems themselves. We have recently become aware of an issue with
off-shore valves that are causing with any long core. These valve are not
properly bored and do not have an internal "toe stop" to ensure the cores
are held closed."

I checked my spare valve stem and it was marked: TR-543 / VENTREX / MADE IN
AUSTRIA

I took it apart and laid the "standard" Schrader valve next to the filtered
Schrader valve and it appeared that they were identical except for the small
filter. It looked like all one needed to do to make the filtered Schrader
valves work was to bore the center out slightly so the filter would fit. .

I bought enough valve stems to re-fit both GMC's from Myer Tire Supply in
Houston and will put one in my lathe and bore it out to see if it will work.
If successful I'll bore them all out.

Stay tuned to this channel for the next exciting chapter!

Rob Mueller
