Recently I got most of a 6KW power drawer generator as a basket case. The ring gear was munched which was probably why it was removed. Anyway we tapped the ring gear off the flywheel and reinstalled it flipped over to get better teeth on the starter pinion side. Left the flywheel outside where it was 40 degrees and heated the ring gear in the oven at 400F. It then just dropped on and stuck when it cooled (15 seconds or so). With a 4 inch angle grinder we ground tooth bevels like was on the munched side for starter pinion entry. It seems to work with the starter OK now.
