Jim K just posted some GREAT FREE advice. Change your FD lube. As the newest GMC is 42 years old. The oldest is 47. At a GMCMI event. ( May never go again,) I asked. Have you ever changed the FD gear lube? Most had not. There is NO type of filter in there. ( I installed a magnetic fill plug. That I check every year for material buildup. )
To drain. You pull off the cover. Then let it set for a few days for some very slow draining.. After that. Pull all the sludge out that's at the bottom. Clean all gasket surfaces. And the very small vent hole at the top of the cover. Very Important. I've found two different cover gaskets. That come as the same Fel Pro part number. One has the proper 2-piece vent passage built into it. The other does not.
( How about your power steering fluid? )
