I don't know why it hasn't been mentioned, that I have seen, but there is a
cure for most of the "I'm stuck" issues.

Turn around and back up!. One has a lot better traction pushing than
pulling. Taking my coach skiing, I have been substantially more successful
in moving around ice and snow backing out of places than going forward with
chains.

I once broke a rear axle in a '45 Ford flatfender and the only way off the
beach in soft sand was...backward.

Try it. Most of the time it will work for you.
