Water heater engine hoses [message #342719]

So was working on installing the iso pads today and ran into the hoses that ran from the engine to the water heater. Had to drop the brackets holding the hose up to get the hoses out of the way. This brought to mind that some believe these should be eliminated because of the potential risk to the engine if these split and ran the coolent dry. Would be best to remove these and plug these connections?
