There will be two parts to the response. The first will appear in the GMCMI eNews that will go out today.

Here is an advance copy for your review:

*******************************************************

There is an article titled “From Junker to Museum Piece” in the February 2019 issue of Family RV’ing (the FMCA magazine). It is the story of a couple who spent a lot of money to have a GMC heavily modified by contractors lacking the knowledge of our community, only to have it perform badly and drive poorly.

We know how much of a pleasure it can be to drive a GMC motorhome with proper weight distribution and alignment. Some feel that the article slighted all of our coaches.

I have been in touch with the Editor of Family RV’ing magazine, and have composed a rebuttal on behalf of GMCMI, and it will run in the next issue of Family RV’ing.

Based on what was added to the coach in the article (outlined in a 2016 article in the same publication), we know the modified coach was grossly overweight and imbalanced. It likely had a stock final drive, wrong ride height and probably a slew of steering/front suspension issues.

The couple donated the coach to the MH/RV Museum in Elkhart after they became uncomfortable driving the coach. The donation earned them a tax credit equal to what they spent. The vehicle was high profile because of the company doing the conversion, the amount of money involved ($500,000) and because it looked interesting with a modern front end, tail lights, fittings and awnings.

I have asked the Presidents of the regional chapters to sign onto this rebuttal letter with me, and encourage you to contact the editor of Family RV’ing with your comments.

The editor of Family RV’ing is Robbin Gould and her email address is rgould@fmca.com

****************************************************

A response for the general MH/RV community is ready, and as previously stated, will run in the next issue of the FMCA “Family RV’ing” magazine.

I am waiting on responses from the regional chapters, whom I have asked to sign on to the longer response.
