IGNITION COIL wire question 1977 Birchaven
My understanding is there are at least 3 different coils for the HEI system. Ours and others that have the starter on the right hand side of the engine use the coil that has the black, red, and yellow wire. Other vehicles and olds 403 (non Toronado) which have the starter on the left side use the coil with black, red, and white wires. For the reason why go here:

scroll down to coil interchangeability.
I have a yellow connector on the pickup coil and a red and yellow wire on the coil on top of the distributor (this is the correct way). I have posted 2 photos showing the wires on the coil I an asking about.

If you look closely at the red and white it looks to me as the manufacturer simply crossed the red and white wires and changed the color white to yellow.
My question is: is it ok to just switch the red and white wires to have proper polarity so I can use it as a spare?
