Lots of viable alternatives for generating electricity in sufficient quantities if the lobbyists for and against everything and the NIMBY advocates get out of the way.

Thorium based reactors are both much smaller and much safer than plutonium based nuke reactors but they can’t produce weapons grade nuclear materials so not popular with countries that really want a bomb instead of just power for its people.

There is enough wind energy in the shallow off shore shelf around many continents to replace all the power generation currently in place, and they can be placed out of view from shore, but who wants all those things off of their coast line mucking around with sea life. And, no one wants to look at the wind turbines placed anywhere on land.

Solar can’t scale well enough either in overall size or use of limited raw materials to make much of a dent overall but can do well in some locations when decentralized like powering homes from the rooftop, or commercial buildings from the rooftop, or charging stations.

As long as burning fossil fuels is priced only by the BTU, and not for all the secondary costs, that will remain the dominant power generation source for the foreseeable future and the resources will exist to recharge a whole bunch of batteries.

So, I don’t think the limiting factor for e-car, e-truck and e-bike adoption will be power generation. The rapid shift from private ownership of vehicles to vehicle service providers will shift the demand so much in the densely populated areas that the net number of vehicles will decrease so fast that the demand curve will look nothing like we might think now.

I believe that if the human race does not obliterate itself with it ultimately the main power source for the world will be nuclear
energy.

I grew up in Hoboken and live about a mile and a half from Sydney's CBD and it's quite a pleasant place to live. Population density
isn't a problem for me.
