[GMCnet] Club liability insurance [message #335033] Fri, 13 July 2018 09:16

Hi Bruce,

Event liability insurance is but one of the member benefits. Every GMC Club has a FMCA rep who can walk you through all the others. Each rep also serves as a National Director of FMCA, the group who sets policy for FMCA, approves the budget, and who elect the national officers.

Individual GMC clubs could buy their own event liability insurance and operate outside of FMCA but most make the decision to stay under the FMCA umbrella once they carefully examine the cost and effort to do so and consider the other member benefits. The magazine and the Area and International conventions offer a great opportunity to see what is new in terms of systems, appliances and electronics that are appropriate upgrades for our GMCs since both large and small coaches use these same things.

So the big thing about having to join the FMCA is for liability insurance for the chapter clubs. So just how much does this insurance actually cost?

I had my own business for 40 years and I had to carry liability insurance as well as covering property and equipment in a number of locations. I even
had a garage auto policy to allow use to move customer vehicles. This was a 24/7-365 business with substantial liabilities if any of our equipment
failed or any that we serviced.

So how much can this insurance possibly cost for 2 to 6 rallies a year lasting only a few days each.

FMCA costs me about $75.00 Canuck bucks and very little of their programs apply to me. So I get a nice magazine. At least now it has more now than
articles about expensive diesel toasters.
