I attempted to purchase new tires yesterday. All the retailers in my area required a special order for the P225/75R16E models I was considering, and none could guarantee the build date would be within the previous four months. Discount Tire required I purchase whatever I had them special order, regardless of the date code. Belle Tire did not have this requirement, so I had them order a set of six Cooper Discoverer HT3s. Took my coach to have them installed...date code was 1517, over a year old! They asked if I still wanted them, and I said "sure, as long as you prorate them." Needless to say, they wouldn't, so I left without purchasing.
Called and spoke with Cooper Tire consumer relations department. Their response: too bad, so sad (I mean, they were nice about it, but they provided zero attempt to get me some newer tires). Apparently, they ship to each retailer's warehouse and have no control over the particular tires you can get. And none of the retailers were willing to have someone physically check the date codes before shipping. Finally tried reaching Discount Tire's consumer relations department, but was mistakenly re-directed to their online operation. Lo and behold, they use a separate warehouse and said they'd be happy to check the date codes. They had six, made within the last month, and are shipping them to my local Discount Tire store for installation. Matched the retail price of $131 (online price was $10 per tire more), plus no sales tax or shipping charges.
Special note to John Lebetski: no Farm & Fleet here in Michigan.
Hope you all have a better buying experience than I had. First time I've had an issue with this since purchasing my coach 15 years ago.
