Our 76 Royale has a broken AC compressor that I haven't worried about since we were able to suffer through that once a year day here in the Pacific NW where we would have appreciated dash AC. Now that we've decided to do our first long trip (to Tucson for the Convention), it got me to thinking about how do deal with hot weather in general and dash AC in particular.
I've been reading up on modifications folks have made to the Type II HVAC system to improve AC performance and have found quite a few approaches. The one that seems to offer the simplest solution Mark Wall's approach here:

I figure just doing the fan relocation and recirc modifications he describes seems like a (relatively) easy way to get most of the benefits without making substantial changes to the internals of the hvac box and mods to the dash distribution plenums.
The fan gets relocated to the front of the box and a recirc path is established via a short connection from the sloped floor to the box. These seem doable without too much trauma, remove three of the six changes in air direction, and take advantage of cooled air in the cockpit.
The only downside I've seen discussed is that the fan motor might suffer from moisture picked up from the evap coil, since it ends up on the suction side of the fan.
Thoughts???
