I had a two - step trip for a pair of shows on two weekends, Greenville SC and Salem (Roanoke 'burb) VA. The Greenville shows were parking RVs in an unshaded lot with no hookups. Six of the exhibitors actually rented a 150KW genset from Sunbelt with a multiple distribution box. I opted for Paris Mountain State Park, 6 miles from the show venue. I think I gave them $22 a night for 50 amps and water, dump station available. It's a really nice park, maybe 40 campsites. Lots of trails, large lake with a swimming area, wifi in the camp office, friendly helpful staff and host. Interestingly, the place filled over that weekend, 3 Class As counting mine, one class C, maybe 10 tents. the rest pull behinds. Motorhomes aren't common there, seems as if. Mine drew a crowd several times. Also, a non-alcohol 7 - 11 closest store and gas to the park. I had a two day break, so I got Black Lister Donovan Orr toe let me park the coach at his garage and pick it up two days later to head out for Salem. Donovan is an old care freak, it's worth a look at what's in his shop drive as well as his house about a half block away.
Hit out from Donovan's in the early morning, and ran up to Salem by lunchtime. The show venue there has hookups which were a godsend, until Sunday morning temps stayed in the 90s. Both sir conditioners were left on low each morning and kept the coach comfortable by the time I got out of the show in the afternoons. Drove it home Sunday in 90 plus degree weather. Puling the hill on 77 at the VA/NC line got us up to 230 on the oil temp and 215 or so on the water. It came back to reasonable on the flatter ground and small hills, but facing the sun in the afternoon doesn't help. Between the fan and the cabin A/C with he curtains closed behind the seat, a bearable ride home. 770 trouble free miles.
Next up is Help Save the Sun in Dillard, GA. And for those coming from Tidewater Crab Country down I 81, here's the move. 81 to I 77 to I 40 West. Decide whether you want to pull the mountain south of Sylva or not. If you pull the mountain, take I 40 West to US 23 towards Wayneville. Remain on it to Dillard. If you'd rather skip the mountain, Take I-40 to US 321 going South. Continue to I-85 and head South to US 441 in far northeast GA. Take 441 N to US 23, to Dillard. The final one mile of US 321 is four lane divided with grade crossings and signals. The rest of it from I -40 south is built to Interstate standards/ It's slightly farther, take your pick.
