I don’t like touting a specific product unless it performs far better than the alternatives. In this case I will. Over the years, from full timing to GMCing we have tried a number of different vacuum cleaners including the built in unit that came with the Royale, a very expensive Miele and a parade of smaller inexpensive units from the big box stores. None worked very well in the confined space of a GMC. They were hard to store and if you have carpet that is constantly sucking leaves and muck off your shoes every time you come in, you really need a powered head to do much in the way of cleaning.

We finally had enough on the Alaska trip and noticed that Dyson was closing out their V6 line of battery operated vacs. We purchase one to try and have been really impressed. The battery lasts longer than it takes to do a top to bottom cleaning of our GMCs. But, best of all, the cleaning performance is better than any of the others we tried and discarded. It does have a power head so is ideal for the inside of a GMC. It comes with a wall mount that automatically connects the head to the power for charging. I mounted that on the inside of the door under the refrigerator on the Clasco and plugged the power into the wall receptacle inside that compartment so it recharges whenever we are on shore power or running the generator. If I had that receptacle wired through the inverter it would recharge while going down the road, as well.

Like many others who tried this V6 Dyson, we found that we could vac with that right after vacuuming with one of our other vacs and pick up a whole bunch of stuff the other vac missed. In fact, it worked so well there that we just purchased another head unit with a small power brush, a crevice tool and a clever soft brush tool from Costco for the close out price of $160. That way we can also use it in our building and have twice the run time. if/when the batteries in one unit give out, we just snap on the other head and keep right on going. Sharon’s only concern is that she thinks it might be too strong to use on our hand knotted oriental rugs (I don’t agree).

We first saw one in use while visiting a well known former GMC owner in AZ who experienced the same thing. They would vac with one of their other units and then go back over the same area with the Dyson V6 and fill up the cyclone chamber with what the other vac missed.

The new Dyson cordless version is called a V8, has twice the run time (same as we now have with two head units), supposedly more suction and a bit bigger cyclone housing but it costs $600 with all the bells and whistles.

Both drive equally as well.
