Personally I think GM got it right with the 455, and 403 in the GMC. My GVW is always in the 17, to 21,000 LBS range with a 403. The 3:70, or 4:10 is the answer for getting over the hills. The last 3800 mile trip at 17,000 GVW. We got 10.2 MPG with stock exhaust, and a Qjet. Then to longevity. I just did a compression test to that 403 that has 157,000 miles on it. All cylinders were between 140, to 145 PSI. It's always had mineral base oils in it. I like what GM did. Bob Dunahugh
