It is considered good form when using abbreviations (other than
the most common), acronyms, and other technical jargon, to spell
out (in parentheses) the actual root or meaning of those. This
should be done at the first time the "term" is used in a given
piece of writing.

SOB is used VERY often and newbies don't realize it's used
(GENERALLY!) to mean Some Other Brand. Perhaps it should even be
spelled S.O.B. (with the periods added). That WOULD, at least,
differentiate it from s-o-a-b or similar!

Most recently, the discussion of various types of fuel injection
systems is chock full of such terms. EBL, EFI, MAF and a whole
raft of other stuff that actually means something to folks who use
this type of fuel delivery are "in" on the whole deal, but I
sometimes wonder if there must be some sort of "secret handshake"
required to decipher what it all means.

If a person wishes to proselytize for any system, perhaps it would be
wise to 'splain as Ricky Riccardo would have said!
