I recently took a trip with a friend who was using his smartphone app for GPS. He was raving about it. it is called WAZE and available on Apple and Android. In addition to normal GPS routing, it allows input from members and alerts. For instance, you get caught in a traffic jam, wreck, stalled car, or see a speed trap and you press a button that warns others. Others run into the same thing, they press a button to say it's still there. As you're driving you hear "Watch out, wreck reported ahead", etc.
It worked pretty slick and I decided to download it. At least until I was notified it wanted access to my: Identity, calendar, contacts, location, SMS, photos/files, camera, microphone, device ID and call info.
I backed out at this point. I can't imagine why they would NEED access to my photos and files, camera, microphone, calendar, contacts, etc. I don't like the idea that SOMEONE COULD listen or watch without my knowledge.
Am I being overly paranoid?
