I got the choke set - finally - so it starts properly without grinding away. Key on, give it a ten count for the pump to fill it up, two shots on the pedal, and vroom! 11 degrees or hot doesn't matter. Fires up happily. So, off to the no-alcohol gas place to warm it for its spring oil change and get ready to run up to Gnashville Wednesday. This will be the test, over Monteagle with the toad clipped on. Acid test for the recored radiator, new oil cooler lines, etc. On the way back from the filling station, I took the freeway to check the on-ramp acceleration. Floored it. No HOOOOOOONK from the back barrels, just a nice leisurely run up to 65 per. So when I got home, I popped the cover and the top of the air filter. Choke's open, but the linkage is so sloppy, the pawl over the rear air valve isn't retracting far enough. No wonder it wanted to heat up on the grades. Well, I fixed that crap. we will see how it does Wednesday. It will do whatever it does with everything open and passing mixture. If I can think of a good reason, when I correct the slop in the linkage, I'll put the silly-ass pawl back where it was.
