Do to a long story I will not repeat here, my 1973 coach does not have body side moldings on it (any more) they are lost. I understand replacing them with a 3 inch wide flat strip of aluminum works. Counter sink the screw holes etc. to mount in place of the original. The coach was repainted and one side shows the original orange paint that was under the original moldings. The other side had the moldings removed before painting so it does not look as bad. Thus I need the 3 inch wide or more to cover up the old paint.

Questions:

1. What thickness should the strip be?
2. I notice there are many kinds of aluminum stock available so which type of aluminum should I use.?
3. I can think of three finish options, have the aluminum polished and install to look like a chrome strip, paint it, or polished or painted and then apply the stick on black rubber molding the GMC suppliers sell?

Thank you in advance for suggestion, opinions or alternatives.
