I have asked someone this question but haven't heard back yet.

Someone has asked me whether the transmission fluid should be hot or cold to check the level by taking out the vacuum modulator. I know they should at least run it for a short time to fill the torque converter but I wasn't sure about the temp of the fluid. Should he do this hot or cold?
