I had to turn on WiFi security at our airport on the guest WiFi access due to the intentional interference from a local off airport hacker. Now we have to hand out a passpharse (password) to tenants and visitors outside of the main terminal building. Open access is still available inside the main terminal building.
I discovered that my Windows 10 tablet would not connect to the new secure system while my Windows 7 machine had no problems. I have seen this problem before at a local university, a local hotel, and a campground but never fully investigated it.
It turns out the both Microsoft and Apple have decided to drop support for for WPA version 1 (TKIP) while keeping the older WEP and the newer WPA2 (AES) encryption standards. I do not think Android has the problem.
I am looking for a work around for this problem which started with Widows 8.1 and continues into Windows 10. It turns out the code is still there, they have just removed the ability to access it and setting your connection profile correctly.
I mention this here in case in your travels you are having random connection problems running Windows 8.1 or later, this is probably your problem. I can not speak to connection problems on Apple.
Has anyone out there already investigated this and come up with an easy solution to the problem?
