Hi Rob,

Yes, an adapter plate is needed since the four square pattern throttle valves do not line up with the two small and two large holes in the top of our spread bore intake manifold. The mounting tab holes do line up so it will bolt on without an adapter, but the throttle valves would not open properly. I happened to use one from NAPA because it was thinner than the one from Holley.
