Ok, George, bragging rights time? We are near Reno on our way to Treasure Island for Fleet Week on Thursday. We, too, drove the I-80 across after a detour to Boulder to see our grand daughter. Lots of wind and rain the last few days and lots of crossing the Continental Divide plus other passes. Our 455 with Patterson carb and distributor has been a jewel. Averaging 3000 rpm uphill and on the flat (about 70 mph). With our 3.67 gearing (3.50 power chain plus 3.21 final drive) we have yet to shift into second gear despite going from near sea level at home to climb the Rockies to Rapid City, Boulder and now back across all the passes in WY and NV. I keep the vacuum higher than 4 inches and just let the gearing and strong engine do its thing.

The aluminum radiator dissipates heat as fast as the engine can make it so have yet to see higher than 200 degrees or lower than 55 mph anywhere, so far. We are around 3500 miles at this point and still have about a thousand miles to go before returning to Kerby, OR.

Oh, and while I have not formally calculated overall mileage, it looks like it will come in about nine mpg........on a carb no less. (Grin). Good to see you guys. Fun rally.
