77 Kingsley RARE Rear Twin Dry Bath $8000. Located in North Alabama
This coach was built by Clarence Buskirk, noted GMC restorer. It has lots and lots of amazing features and upgrades. It was driven regularly until the past two years when the owner became ill. Relatives used the coach a few times during this period so it wasn't just sitting.
- STRONG 501 Cadillac with port fuel injection by Rance Baxter with computer and manual (note this is older software)
- 3:46 final drive (and I believe a chain powerdrive also based on road speed and tach RPM 3100 rpm at 60mph)
- RARE GMC rear twin/dry bath layout. This was standard on GMC Edgemonts and optional on other models. I'm aware of one other Kingsley with this, the most desirable of GMC floorplans. Bed length is 78", the longest of any GMC or upfitter coach.
- Super heavy sway bars on all 3 axles...Caspro I expect
- Best driving GMC I've ever driven. No wander or wiggle...rock solid and pulls like a train.
- Transmission shifts very nice.
- Modern electronic 120 to 12 V converter....Progressive Dynamics or similar. It's located behind the stove and I have not pulled the stove to determine the name. it works fine.
- Updated Fridge
- Upgraded monitor system (see photos)
- Cherry cabinet doors
- Tuffed and pleated headliner
- Updated hot water heater
- Moses Darcy air compressor
- Aluminum water tank
- Satellite system. There is a controller and cables in the bedroom. I assume you'll need a direct TV box or similar.
- Dual air (both work)
- Awnings on both sides
- Original burnt orange upholstery in great shape except for wear in cockpit seats
- What appears to be a practically new Onan Emerald mounted on slides
- Air horns
- Storage pod on roof
- SEVEN Alcoa wheels
- Older tires with 90% tread
- Two new Delco batteries
- Factory option thermometer by drivers window
- Dinette makes a bed
- Carpet needs replacing
- Dry bath module is somewhat yellowed. Can be easily painted
- Paint is so-so. While it is a 77, it was painted (by Buskirk) in 78 colors. Faded in some spots. - Needs a bath really bad and there are a few dings
Here is the deal. We bought this at an estate auction last fall with the idea of doing a total restore and making it our primary coach. Reality has set in and the restoration just isn't going to fit in with the rest of our 'life'. The motor starts immediately and runs great. Shifts and drives fine. Brakes are so-so. It could be the booster or it could be the P30 master cylinder rather than the stock MC. Driver's windshield is cracked. I have a spare that I will include but it, like these, has some fogging.
Fridge works fine. It is a 120V/Propane and because the propane tank is empty I can't verify it works on propane. It does switch and display 'propane' indicating it's trying. It is a newer black face unit so I expect it does. It does fine on AC power.
The windshield wipers do not work. I have a Henderson electric conversion that I can add for cost. The price quoted is as-is. If I have to do any work and verify this or that, the price goes up. We bought it with a lot of unknowns because of the floor plan and the engine. Later, we discovered a ton of other significant upgrades such as being a Buskirk coach. It will need a lot of work to make a super nice coach but oh what a coach it will be!
One thing we've learned with the restoration of our 77 Eleganza is that you're pretty much going to have to go through everything anyway. Because of the floorplan, this coach will be considerably more valuable and desirable at the end of that process. You're going to spend 20K to get a nice coach where you want it. Spend a bit of money and some time on this one and you'll really have a great and desirable coach.
