Good afternoon,
I did my front wheel bearings about a year ago with new set 23's and seals, drilled for fittings ,and have been just checking for looseness anytime they where in the air. When I did the rebuild, the PO's widow gave me a bunch of parts with, what I thought was rebuilt knuckles and they measured right on specs. Have noticed the right is a little looser than the left when rocking top to bottom. About as loose as the standard type wheel bearings on the rears. The left has a little looseness but not near as discernable. Even did a temp check when we got back from a 100 mile run. My VOM has a temp probe and I held it on the right and got 114-115F and the left was 116-117F with it being 95F outside. Always been able to hold my hand on all the bearings, they are warm as you'd expect but no real discomfort to touch. Before someone asked, I just did the upper and lower ball joints and this extra looseness was there before I changed the balljoints. Just trying to determine if the temps and looseness sounds in line or do I need to check, I have a spare bearing set if I need to, and if I need a hub I'll cross that when I come to it. Also is there any CV boots out there other than Dormans. Mine seem to dry rot within 6 months. In the spare parts I got there were some that are of a harder rubber and real shiny, anyone familiar with these. As usual if you or any of your IM force, oops sorry having a 60's flashback, what I meant to say was as usual any comments or opinion are greatly appreciated. We may not always agree but this is still America where we have the right to disagree contrary to public opinion that that is not PC. But I have never been accused of being politically correct. Off my soapbox for now.
