Hi Alan,
These are simple creatures that most mechanics can work on if you download the Duane Simmons booklet on the Onan and have them follow that. From what you describe it could easily be the fuel pump is dirty (cap on the bottom just turns half a turn to remove and clean), the fuel lines are mush inside (replace them), the carb main jet or float valve is set wrong or bad (follow Duane S.), the mixture is wrong (follow Duane S.), the ignition system is bad (buy the Perrtonics kit from Gary Bovee) or the governor is set wrong (follow Duane S.). It is also possible the board is flakey (replace it) or the connections are corroded (squirt some electrical contact cleaner on all of them).

Greetings,
A couple of years ago I saw an original 6k watt Onan out of a GMC advertised with 350hrs on Craigslist and bought it, and had it installed by the gent
who sold it. It starts up right waway, but soon after putting a load on it the rpms drop and it runs very rough, and then volts drop accordingly.
Before I dump money into this, I'd like to know if anyone might know what the problem is. Is it tune up? If so is there anyone in Southern California
that can work on it? (I really miss Duane Simmons - RIP). Thanks
