Does anyone know how to remove the ball from the
socket in the base of the RAMCO Mirrors?

I have drilled out the set screws and need to clean out the threads
with a tap but can't get the tap completely into the base since the ball
is in the way.

It looks like there is a plastic clip that holds the ball in place
but I have had no luck getting it to come out.
