Years ago there were steel, or glass pack mufflers. At one time I had a muffler that I bought that was a little too loud. So I put a half of a pad of vary coarse steel wool in the inlet. Helped some. So I added the other half. Sounded great.And didn't seem to impair flow. Used it for about 3 years. Bob Dunahugh
