Thanks for the compliment, Johnny.

While Corian is very nice material and easy to work with if you use the correct adhesives and sharp carbide blades and bits, there are lots of alternatives you might want to consider as well. Move away from the big box stores and go to hardwood supplier in your area.. They often will carry materials like bamboo plywood or bamboo solid core sheet goods that make for a really classy look. Finish them with water based counter top finishes and you can enjoy years of worry free GMC use. I often use a water based conversion varnish from Target Coatings in NJ on solid hard wood kitchen counter tops (applied with HVLP spray equipment) and have yet to have a surface failure even years later. Another interesting alternative is pre-finished laminated maple work table tops available via on-line purchase from places like Grizzly tools. Buy the thinner versions, cut them to size and shape with good quality carbide blades and bits, sand the cut areas well and seal the cut edges with
a water based material. You will find them nearly impossible to damage unless you set really hot pans directly on them. All of these alternatives are less expensive than trade name solid surface materials like Corian brand. If you really want Corian brand, then $400 cut to fit is about right.

I bought some weneer plywood to finish out a set of craigslist ex kitchen cabinets in our living-dog-tv room and it wasn't greatly expensive.
Finished the veneer side with polyurethane varnish, it looks pretty good and it was fairly easy. I suspect you could take a sabre saw and make a
counter top with it. It's available in veneer to match about any cabinet face. If you like laminate, and have a router to do the edges, get cheaper
plywood and glue Formica to the top and round the edges with the router. My stuff isn't close to Jerry's standards but my whole place is done in
Early Okie and Dog Fur anyway.
