The same notebook that held the Alaska Trip Report also contained an early
copy of an EXCELLENT treatise on troubleshooting HEI distributors. The
current, improved, version is available at:

If you have HEI, you should carry this in the same location as your
(mandatory) spare module (even if it was written primarily for Chevrolets):
