My new Paterson engine with new paterson qjet and dizzy. Made my troubles. Idle was unstable going up and down fast idle would surch up til 1800 and vacuum at idle was low. Also the idle adjustment screws did not seem to do anything.
I got a lot of input on what to do with carb uptil trowing it away and installing the Edelbrock again
I just had the feeling this cant be right. Paterson made this carb for this engine and it has to work. I was thinking for along time:
Now if ignition is not good then I get to little vacuum there is not enough to close the pistons in the carb. Etc etc
So I have a new dizzy but a old cap and coil. I ordered these and after installing idle was getting stronger. Then I looked at this old wire going through the egnition switch. , there was 12,5 volt, but the batteri has more then 13 hm. I run a direct thick wire from the batteri to the dizzy and behold ! Now I could make adjustment on the idle screws. Bring idle revs down, bring high idle revs down and get rid of the nozzle drop
To make it neat and tidy I installed a relais, used the old ignition wire to switch the relais and the new wire trough the relais to the dizzy
That solved my problem. I still have the qjet and the flat floor
