Spent 3 years on a chemical tanker. If it ended with ene we carried it. Smell permitted everything but especially nylon and rayon as they are made from the chemicals. My wife would not let me enter the house with my clothes or shoes so they stayed on porch. After a few days when I could again smell them they went in the garbage. That was over 40 years ago but don't expect anything has changed.
