I have a welded on ball hitch setup, very robust, plate comes out right underneath the rear bumper. Trying to figure out how to add a motorcycle carrier like the style that slides into a receiver hitch (some good pics and conversation on this when I search this forum) but without a receiver hitch. Right now I don't need to also tow with the ball, but ideally it would be available. Honda Rebel 250, 300 lbs dry weight is a suitable bike to consider for this conversation (as yet unpurchased).

Should I start with the idea of mounting a shelf to bumper braces behind the actual bumper, etc. Back in the area shown here

I would probably lose the spare tire and rack completely that way. I thought about welding a receiver tube on the bottom of the big plate, but then it would reduce clearance at the very back. Thoughts? One trip, I put two kid bicycles on the front of a minivan leaving east coast going to Grand Canyon, and lost 2-4 mpg from the torn up wind flow (towing a popup). We shoehorned them into the popup by Texas on the way out, and donated them to a cool KOA on the way back through Oklahoma. So, while I actually think it would be easier for me to figure hanging a motorcycle on the front of my GMC, not really interested!

it almost looks like I could put some sort of bracket in between the bumper slider things and the frame. Do I need to worry about strength of all these components, or just clearance?
