For the past two years, we had a strong gas smell in the cockpit, especially after I had FILLED the tanks, it would last for days. Tried most everything. Today, I decided to verify the liquid/vapor separator was working so I took it off. Yep, ball rattles and it goes only one way when the ball is up.

So I decided to bypass the charcoal canister for a test but when putting the hoses back on I noticed that the big hose from the Tee that goes to the tanks was on top and the smaller line that goes to the charcoal canister was on the bottom. Exactly backward. Upon inspection, I could see where the smaller hose was forced over the male port. Took some effort and gross stupidity to do that. You'd THINK the dumbass would have wondered why it was so hard to get on.

(*#%$&((&%$&&**!

So what has been happening is that when I filled the tanks, as they burped and gurgled, raw gas went up into the top of the separator and instead of floating the ball, it just drained through and went directly into the charcoal canister which stunk for days. Even if enough raw gas came in to float the ball and stop the flow, all that gas would ultimately drain into the charcoal canister.

Putting things together correctly and will report.

I'm concerned that the charcoal canister has been made useless by all the raw gas.
