I read where a GMC'er lost all his axle bolts on one axle & had to be towed
to the next town.
I'm getting my 26' Painted Desert ready for a 5,000 mile plus trip this
month.
After reading this, I checked my axles & sure enough the bolts were loose on
both axles & a bolt was missing on the drivers side axle.
I only have about 15,000 miles on the final drive & that's when I replaced
all of the bolts & lock washers
& never thought to check them.
I have since taken Jim Hupy's advice & put red locktite on all the axle
bolts & torqued them at 75 pounds.
If I hadn't read about this on the net, I can't imagine what would have
happened on my trip.
I have owned my 23' ? for 31 years & never had a problem with axle bolts so
never thought to check them on the Painted Desert.
This is one of the values of sharing your experiences that you have &
putting them on the net.
Thank you net.
