Well, it looks like I need to replace the bearings on a rear wheel. I took a drive last week and discovered that the left rear wheel was hot, so I concluded that after sitting for a while that the brake caliper was probably rusted in position. So I cleaned it up and everything seemed to be working just fine until it went for another drive yesterday and heated up the same wheel. Ugh. So I figure I have to take it apart again and replace the bearings.
My question(s):
I replaced my drum brakes with the 6 wheel disc system several years ago. I can not for the life of me find the bearing information for this system so that I buy the correct bearings. While I would like to buy from JimK, I can not have the coach in front of my house for that long. Damn Home Owners Assoc. Since I have a NAPA and other auto parts stores nearby, I would like to buy locally more quickly. Do these happen to be the same bearings listed on the gmcmotorhome.info site? Our NAPA store does not have the TIMKIN bearings, but does of course carry the NAPA bearings and races.
Do these bearings follow the same isntallation procedure as the original front disc brakes, or does the tightening procedure follow the original drum brake procedure? i.e. tighten by hand, back off 1/2 turn then install cotter pin?
