My alternator over charged on a recent road trip unbeknown to me. Engine battery was ok, but the coach battery back by the generator took a beating. My battery posts have the type of post for clamping as well as a stud with a wing nut, the negative post with the wing nut burned a hole in the battery case the size of a quarter under the wing nut portion. My in line electric fuel pump also took a hit. But my dash wiring is still intact. I have a combiner, shouldn't that have prevented the batteries from over charging? Just asking.

I now have a voltmeter installed.
