Oils of all types do a good job when used as there intended to be used. Each have characteristic's to meet different demands. Synthetics are fantastic when you put lots of miles, or hrs on engines during each year. My Onan has about 270 hours on it. My 1978 403 is at 150,000 miles. I have the service records on both back to new. Both have had various brands of 10/30 over all these years. A few years ago. I pulled the oil pan, and heads off the Onan for inspection. Checked rod bearing clearance, and cylinders. Did the same to the 403. Both were vary clean inside, and within factory specs. The top of the ring travel on the 403 had .0004 over original stock. I'd say that the standard 10/30 has performed well. I put about 3 to 4,000 miles a year on the GMC. 1 to 3 hrs on the Onan each year. I still use standard 10/30 oil for diesel engines to get the proper amount of zinc in both. I change the GMC oil each year. The Onan, I sometimes go two years. Depending on color. I've tal
ked to chemist at two oil company's. Both company's make standard, and synthetic oils. Both felt that synthetic had vary little to offer my application. I see no reason for me to spend money for something that has limited benefit for ME. You need to do what you think is best for YOUR application, and comfort zone.
