We got our 78 Royale 11 years ago. To put me in my comfort zone. I started taking things apart for inspection right away. I pulled the transmission apart. It was fine. But since it was in pieces on my bench. I put a rebuild kit in it. After all. The kit was only $125. And the rebuilt Alison torque converter was $78. Liked the idea of the 3.70 ring, and pinion from Jim K. So since the final drive was on my bench. I ordered the gear set from Jim K. And installed the gears in my case. DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF. Or have a friend do it. I know how. Don't do it. Everything was out of the way. I'll pull the oil pan to check the bearings. Mitt as well replace the timing chain, water pump, radiator, fuel pump, all rubber hose every were, AC compressor, all brake parts, new tires, alum rims, and greased all wheel bearings. Later. Linda wanted a new style frig. Widened the door by 7 inches. And this list can go on, and on. The fact was that I found out that I didn't have to do almost an
y of this. The coach had been well maintained. Even the frame is still black. The point here is that even with all this done. I really don't have a lot of money in it. A neighbor bought a new diesel pusher in 2006. He just sold it at a tremendous loss last fall. And he said that every time he had it in the shop. The cost was always between $3,000. to 6,000. each time. High insurance, and licenses plate rates. Now that's a money pit.So now I need to install the things I've bought lately. Rear disc brakes, Quad bags, rear sway bars, and the EFI. Besides. It's a HOBBY. RIGHT. Just love these things. And the members of GMCMI. Bob Dunahugh GMCMI member78 Royale
