> Corley, from reading your latest post, it is obvious that you do not know precisely what Manny does to his transmissions, ( nor do I). and you probably have never taken up a conversation with him, so I suggest you follow suit and save others from forming wrong assumptions.

We had the opportunity to watch the amazing Manny rebuild our tranny (while trying
desperately to stay out of his way). He did the entire rebuild, including pulling and resinstalling,
in the course of a single day. Just watching was exhausting. I really wish I was more knowledgeable
so more of what he did could have soaked in, but here are my notes from the time:

> He does lots of his own touches -- adds another clutch to 1st gear, uses all stainless fasteners,
> puts in a much more robust sprag(roller?) clutch thing with about 3x as many rollers in it, and
> slightly bends up the tabs on the first clutch plate so that even if it wears all the way through
> it won't spin. All new bearings, bushings, clutches, gaskets, torque converter, etc.He uses viton o-rings
> because they're good to much higher temps.

> He taps and plugs the passage hole for the kick-down switch function. He
> doesn't like the kickdown because it steals pressure, leaks, and causes slippage.
> Says you still get downshifts due to vacuum and you can always downshift manually so not needed.
> He does install a new kickdown, but only because he has them and it fills the hole.

I'll add that anyone who has ever dealt with Manny has gotten an impossibly good deal.
All that great stuff he did to our tranny, plus a 3.5 chain drive, was far, far less
than what a local shop charged us for a common ford van tranny rebuild. Manny is
generous to a fault and a mechanical genius.

just my .02.
