I saw an Airstream article a while back about using a Mr Slim type inverter ac with a smallish Honda generator, since the inverter type ac uses alot less wattage (presumedly). I can't find any update on whether that worked out or not.

Also, I have read about some split ac units for over the road trucks for use off batteries only so they don't have to keep the engine running. 8500 btu with average of 30 amp draw at 12 volts (assuming a 50% duty cycle).

So, has anyone actually experienced a Mr. Slim type 26 seer mini split system running off a 2000 watt generator and cooling a GMC?

Are they robust enough to withstand the vibration etc. of a motorhome use?

Or the trucker system off battery only? If I put a curtain around my bed area and run all the cooling to that area, 8500 but would surely keep me cool enough to sleep through the night. If I was careful and built a little "insulated tent" around my bed, I bet 4000 btu would let me sleep through the night. No need to cool the entire coach overnight, for me.

If that could be done on an average of 15 amps for 6 hours,I think a battery option would be viable.

So, how can we make a system that can keep a bed cool running off batteries? http://www.minisplitacunit.com/solar-ductless-9000btuminisplitac-inverter.htm is an example claiming 9000 btu off of 536 watts-ignoring voltage conversion / loss issues, at 12 volts thats only 50 amps, about the same as the trucker units I have read about.

Is there a 5000 btu mini split out there?

Or am I completely off base?
