This thread is exactly why I continue to think we need an engine builder score card. Far too many anecdotes and far too little factual reporting of good and bad experiences here on the net to be of much value to anyone. I know of several people who have had a good experience with S & J engines just as we have so far and only know of this one failure plus one example where the crank seal surface was improperly machined (fixed under warrantee including R&R labor cost) but that does not mean those few points of knowledge are in any way indicative of the whole universe of experience with these, or any other engines used in our application.

YES! Although as the old saw goes..."Stuff happens sometimes." It happens to NASA. Stuff happens to Dick Paterson, Koba, that Pinkerton loudmouth and everyone else who does things.

As Jim K said, the proof of the rebuilder is in the warranty. Unfortunately, the R&R is the biggest expense and pain imo and I doubt they will cover that.
