Getting ready to install my new cabinets and dragged the original black Magic Chef oven with pho stainless four burner cooktop down from the shelf so my cabinet guy could measure it and I realized that putting that stove back with my all of my new interior would be like putting lipstick on a pig(no pun intended). The surround for the burners is plated with something to appear like stainless but it had rust pits which would not polish out with ultra fine steel wool. I dismantled it to take the plated parts to my plater for a quote along with the rusted rear heat deflector and hinged burner cover. Time and cost made plating a not so great option so next stop was the powder coater. He would have been half the money and time but thought that powder was not a good application for the burner surround. He suggested a light dusting of the burner surround with glass beads. I brought it all back home and worked the surround with fine glass and it looked a little better. Then I hit it with 0000 steel wool and that softened the texture and evened out the mottling from the glass beads. Then I worked it hard with a mini wool pad and heavy 3m buffing compound and washed it. It now looks ok but not great. The panel which houses the controls can be stripped and painted so I'm good there. The hinged cover can be powder coated if I can't live with the wear marks and spotty surface rust on the underside. The control knobs were in decent shape except for on that looke like it was folded like A fortune cookie and then straightened back out. Well, I could take a few minutes and clean the five knobs by hand with ammonia free glass cleaner or I could throw them in the dishwasher and even have them sanitized. Win win right? No. Do not put your oven control knobs in the dishwasher unless you want them to look 100 years old rather than 40. I know, I know you are thinking that it's because the dishwasher is some low grade non smart unit but it's a state of the art Miele.

Anyone upgrade or delete their original Magic Chef oven and want to sell some knobs? Or burner surround and range cover?
