Didn't want to step on a previous thread about parking brakes so I'll ask my question in this one. The PO had removed all the drum brakes and put disc on the middle wheels, I just put drums back on the back for a little more brakes and CYA in case something should happen. I can tell an improvement. Haven't tried to lock it up though. I digress. My original thought is how to get some kind of parking brake, just as a backup for the PARK pawl in the tranny. All the cables have been long gone and from what I read I don't know if just hooking up the drums on the rear would do much good. I have a line lock in the box that the PO never installed. I hear good and bad about them. I understand how they work but don't see why the brakes should be applied so hard just for parking since there would be 4 disc and 2 drums, then when it would be time to release you can always overcome what pressure was applied to lock the brakes down. If any one has ideals on cables for the single drum in the rear please speak up, I'm not crazy about unhooking the hydraulics on the rears though I do like the little bit extra it helps. Thanks in advance for any ideals. Did do a search for custom parking brake cables and one sight had rear disc conversions for GMCs with the calipers having mechanical arms to hook up cable for parking brake.
