Most people up North have their high efficient furnace exhaust coming out the side of their house in 2 to 3 inch plastic PVC pipe now days. High efficiency furnaces ( 90, to 96% ) can produce a lot of water. As the water droplets come out. You can have an ice column build up so it can obstruct that exhaust. Then the furnace will shut down. I've never had one build up more than a foot high before, ever. My exhaust pipes come out of the house about 9 ft up. Both ice columns are almost 6 ft high now. And almost a ft across. I haven't seem the street in front of my house due to ice, and snow since November. Can't wear my tires out with that. ( GRIN ) And where you can see the street surface. It to is white due to all the salt. My brown van is now white with salt. There have been water pipes breaking that are buried 4 ft down. Water pipes here are down 4 to 6 ft. due to freezing ground. We've had 39 days this winter below zero. Last night we were near 30 below. Today its e
xpected to be warmer than it's been at 7 above. This is IOWA this year. So if your up North. Better check your exhaust out.
