I don't often drive at night, but when I do I am having a harder time seeing well. Three years ago I tried the HID lights in the Royale and a couple of cars. They are very bright, but I had several bulbs burn out already along with a couple of the starters. The H4's have a Mickey mouse solenoid arrangement for going between low and high beam that never seemed to work correctly for very long. I finally found a pair of H4 LED lights that seem to be just the ticket for good design, bright but controlled light and they require no special wiring, just plug and play. They use two large CREE CXA1512 emitters in each bulb, one upper for the low beams and one lower for the high. Each operates at just 2.2 amps. I can't imagine needing high beams very often. The only clumsy part is a micro-fan that screws onto the back of the fixture for cooling. That will probably be the first thing to go. I will post the link if anyone is interested and will post updates as I learn more from
real world use. We will be headed south into the SW and Mexico sometime in January so will likely have need of some night driving (NOT in Mexico, though)! The cardinal rule there is get off the road before the sun goes down as many cars/trucks drive with little or no lights showing.
