Or really any of the Deutz engines, though I personally find the air cooled
models the most interesting.

The Deutz 914 series is an inline 3, 4, 5, or 6, available with
turbocharging on all but the 5, and optional charge air cooled
turbocharging on the 6. It is also available naturally aspirated. Being an
air cooled engine, there is no need for a radiator, which frees up that
space. It can use SAE bellhousings 1, 2, 3, and 4

it is less tall than the Cummins 4BT, and supposedly more fuel efficient,
one dude installed one into his F250, and got 35 mpg...

Numbers:
4BT (numbers unverified, third party)
3.9L, 239 cid
105hp@2300rpm
265lb-ft@1600rpm
37.7x24.6x30.6 hwd inches
750-800 pounds

914 (from Deutz AG website)
4.3L, 263 cid
100.4hp@2500rpm
264.7lb-ft@1600rpm
34.3x28.6x32.1 hwd inches
10.4 inches, Flywheel center to bottom of sump
771.6 pounds

Lots of Brazilians put these in their F series fords... (Just search
youtube 'deutz ford')

The url I got the datasheet from might not work without browsing to it
through their site, but here it is:

Turns out there are several variations, but I'm not gonna go through them
all now, just pondering things
