Unlike many GMC clubs, the Saguaro Jetset starts our rally season in November and runs through the Winter to early Spring. We had our Thanksgiving rally last weekend at the Triangle-T Guest Ranch in Dragoon AZ. Many who have traveled I-10 through Arizona are familiar with Texas Canyon, home of two of the most scenic rest areas in the country. The rally location was a stone's throw from those rest areas in beautiful Texas Canyon.
All in all, the rally was very successful with 12 coaches in attendance. Thanks to several guests (three from El Paso, one from New Mexico, and one from Alaska) the GMCs outnumbered the SOBs for a change (unusual for this club any more). There were going to be several more, but we had four last minute cancellations and two no-shows. The cancellations were all due to either health/family issues or break downs, but I can't explain the no shows.
Oh well, those of us that were there had a great time. First of all, the area is stunningly beautiful and full of history. We had a "cowboy breakfast" Friday morning, and a Thanksgiving dinner Saturday evening, both catered by the folks at the ranch. We also watched the original version of "3:10 to Yuma" which was filmed there in 1957. A few members of the group explored the area and found the old Butterfield stage depot that was abandoned at the beginning of the Civil War, along with the adjacent CSA cemetery where four Confederate soldiers are buried after being ambushed by Apache leader Cochise and his band.
Saturday, a large group went the 25 or so miles to St David (considered local in our parts) at an arts and crafts festival at the Benedictine Monastery. A few others stayed behind and went horseback riding at the ranch. others just spent a relaxing day making music or just chilling. We finished the evening, after dinner, with a nice campfire and some story telling.
Sunday morning, we shared a "continental breakfast" (which had nothing to do with 'the continent' according to Marc and Puck Hogenboom), said our goodbyes, and headed home.
As rally hosts, Kathy and I would like to thank all who attended and made the rally such a success.
