It would have been nice if GM would have built some mechanical means to retain the pads. Instead they relied on adhesives to accomplish that task. In the 70's. GM didn't plan for these coaches to be used for 40 plus years. When I replaced my pads. I thought of finding some way to secure the pads. But I decided to not possibly interfere with the original purpose of the pads. That was to reduce sound transfer. And stop the body, and frame from coming in contact with each other. Over all that task was accomplished for the normal expected life of these GMC's. I replace my missing pads 8 years ago. I've seen no signs of movement. And I didn't even use adhesive, as GM did. So did GM really do a bad job on something that lasted way be on the expected life of these things. I don't think I'll have to deal with the pads for the rest of my life.
